15th MAY 2006

Green Bricks (Queen Street) has reopened and is presently selling Tetley Bitter and Black Sheep Bitter with another guest to be added soon – probably Taylor’s Landlord.

Half Way Hotel (Hessle Road) has a new licensee – Katherine Marshall (previously at The Nancy, Burton Pidsea).

Three Tuns (Boothferry Road) is presently being run by a relief manager. A guest beer has been introduced for a month trial period.

Cross Keys (Beverley Road) has had new external signage fitted recently.

Wassand Arms (Wassand Street) is presently closed and boarded up with metal sheeting. The lease is advertised for sale.

Duke of Wellington (Peel Street) is owned by the Provence Pub Group. The lease is held by Douglas MacLauchlan (property developer) – his first pub. The new manager is called Denise (formerly at the Swan Inn on Beverley Road); however, her son Richard is the licensee. They are presently selling Tetley Bitter as a regular beer and Black Sheep Bitter as a guest.

Old English Gentleman (Worship Street) is due to loose its present licensees, Chris & Joyce, in the near future when they move to The Punch (Queen Victoria Square).

Old Zoological (Spring Bank/Princes Avenue) has a new licensee – Andy Joplin (formerly at the New Clarence). He has had the cellar re-fitted and is selling two guest beers at £2.00 a pint.

28th February

The Mill, Holderness Road, opposite Woodford Leisure Centre has a new manager. Nigel Fenwick has been here since January 3rd. Their regular beers are Tetley Mild, Tetley Bitter and Black Sheep Best Bitter with a changing guest beer planned. Nigel was the cellar man at the Earl de Grey before it shut again at the start of 2005, and has been manager at a pub in the Barnsley area before returning to Hull.

The Minerva Hotel, Nelson Street, near the Marina has recently been sold to the Tattershall Castle Group, resulting in a wider choice of guest beers to choose from.

10th February

Ye Olde White Harte, Silver Street in the Old Town has received an award from their Pub Company, Scottish Courage. They have been voted top Beer Pub in the North of England, which covers Nottingham to Scotland. Congratulations and best of luck in the National Final to the Licensee, Bernard Copley and his staff.

27th January 2006: News Update

Sleepers, Newland Avenue, next to the Railway Bridge, 2 miles north of the City Centre today put its first Real ale on sale in the form of Timothy Taylor Landlord. The Licensee has been persuaded to give Real ale a try by visiting CAMRA members. We wish them well with it

25th January 2006: News Update

Hulls newest and most certainly smallest Real Ale outlet opened today. The Vines is a cellar bar on Albion Street in the City Centre, and is opposite the temporary Bus Station. Two Real Ales were on sale on the Saturday when I visited. The beers are supplied through Wold Top Brewery; so it is not unlikely that their own beers will available from time to time.

21st January 2006: Correction

After many broken promises the Premiere Bar, Anlaby Road, opposite West Park Gates confirmed today that they have decided to not sell Real Ale after all.

14th January 2006: News Update

Pave, Princes Avenue has now extended its Real Ale range to four beers. Caledonian Deuchars IPA has joined Theakstons Best Bitter and XB as regular beers. The changing Guest Beer sometimes comes from Wold Top Brewery. Addlestones Dry, a Real Cider is also on draught.

13th January 2006: News Update

The George Hotel, Land of Green Ginger, off Whitefriargate in the Old Town reopened its doors today, after a short refurbishment. Tetley Bitter & Black Sheep Best Bitter are the regular beers, with a changing Guest Beer also available. Food is also to be introduced in February.
